Textiles artist/ designer maker
About my work
I specialise in miniature appliqué and love working with vintage and reclaimed fabrics, especially the tiny floral and spriggy prints of the ’70s and early ’80s. I have a particular fondness for the Laura Ashley and Linda Beard prints from that era and collect these beautiful fabrics to use in my work. Sometimes they are unused vintage pieces that have been stored carefully in attics and drawers for decades before finding their way to me and sometimes they are cut from old household linens and textiles or items of clothing that have seen better days. I avoid using new materials and try to make my work as sustainable as possible so the cards and envelopes I use are all 100% recycled and are supplied in fully compostable and biodegradable film sleeves made from vegetable starch.
In addition to the textile art, I also enjoy creating other things using the same earth friendly principles, so from time to time I offer for sale other handmade items such as the organic Lavender sachets.
I live in the north of England with my husband, the youngest two of my four children, who are sixteen and twenty and a twelve year old tabby called Sidney.
Two of my children have Autism and I spend a lot of my time providing care and supporting them, one of them lives here with me and the other needs support living independently, so my stitching time is precious and never taken for granted! It is for this reason that I don’t take commissions or special orders as I prefer to only have for sale what I have already made to avoid disappointing people if I am unable to meet a deadline.
The work I have for sale in my online shop is all ready to ship. Cards are always dispatched First Class within 24 hours of purchase and all other items dispatched within 24-48 hours. More information about delivery is available on the ‘order & delivery‘ page.
If you would like to know more about what I do or you have a question about a specific item, please do get in touch!
I also write a blog where I talk about life, the universe and everything (but mostly fabric and cake). You are very welcome to pop over for a read. It can be found here: www.stitchesatsix.co.uk/blog.
